~Discipline is often misunderstood. We tend to think of discipline as something doled out to misbehaving children. We see it as a punitive consequence for doing something wrong.
Or we see it as extreme – living a rigid, austere life.
But it’s really neither of those things.
Discipline is having our own backs. It’s trusting ourselves to do the things we’ve committed to doing, even when, especially when we don’t want to do them.
Discipline is accountability. It is honoring our commitments to ourselves. We are doing what we have said we would do.
When it comes to sustainable weight loss, discipline is a must.
It is a loving practice of showing up for ourselves, over and over again. Doing the hard things, even when we don’t want to do so, when we’d prefer to take an easier way out.
Discipline is our ability to be uncomfortable with our choices.
It’s eating the food we planned to eat rather than the food we want in the moment.
When we keep showing up for ourselves in those uncomfortable moments, and gently, lovingly doing the things we don’t want to do, we build TRUST with ourselves.
We trust that we can count on ourselves. We have our own backs. On repeat.
And we become people we can trust.
That’s everything.
